WELCOME TO THE LIBRARY
Silkeborg Public Library not only gives you the chance to read thousands of books; it also opens up a world of endless possibilities. At the library you can gain insight into the educational possibilities, courses and cultural activities offered to you in Silkeborg.

The library is a lively meeting place and is divided into the following sections: Experience (Oplevelse), Knowledge (Viden), Reception & Café (Reception & Café), Children & Young People (Børn & Unge), Internet & Multimedia Workshop (Multimedieværksted) and The Local History Archives (Lokalhistorisk arkiv).

EXPERIENCE (Oplevelse) - Fiction and music
In this section of the library you will find "food for thought" - that is literature which is worth getting absorbed in whether that be crafty intrigues, conspiracies, thrillers, philosophies of life or science fiction. Some of the literary genres have shelves of their own, while others are placed on the same shelves. A member of the library staff is always willing to help you find your way around the exciting world of poems, stories and novels. Books recently acquired by the library as well as the most popular ones can be found on the shelves marked "Kviklån" (quick loan). The loan period for these books is shorter than for the rest of the library materials in general.

The library has a wide selection of audio books, language courses on tape, CD's and videotapes, which you can also find in this section along with records, cassettes, sheet music, magazines and books about music. All of these library materials can be borrowed for use outside the library. You can also listen to music and of course the staff will always be happy to answer any questions concerning music, literature, biographies and literary history.
KNOWLEDGE (Viden) - Reference and facts
The books you find in this part of the library concern education, employment, business and hobbies and they are divided into subjects. In order to find these books you can use the computers connected to the database of the library. If you have access to the Internet at home you can do the same by accessing the website of the library.

Through the Internet you can also reserve and renew the loan period yourself (you need a pin code - ask a librarian) - do notice that you can only extend it by four weeks and you can only do so once for each book, CD etc. Finally you can see a list of the library materials you currently have taken out from the library and when it has to be returned.
In this section you can also find a rich stock of magazines and journals.
The SERVICE INFORMATION (Service-information)
In the Service Information you can get information about the library and the rules and regulations for borrowing library materials for use outside the library. In the café we have a selection of the most popular magazines and journals. You can find approximately 30 Danish newspapers as well as some in English, German, Norwegian, Swedish and ...
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE (Børn & Unge)
In the section for children and young people you can find and borrow books, comic books, cassettes, audio books, records and CD's. You can play a variety of different computer games and listen to music. The library has a wide selection of activities for children such as exhibitions, theatrical performances, a puppet theatre and films. A special section with selected comic books, novels, poetry, videotapes and computers is designed for young people.
INTERNET & MULTIMEDIA WORKSHOP (Multimedieværkstedet)
You can send and receive e-mail, use word processing (Microsoft Word), print in black & white and colours, scan pictures and under some circumstances chat on the Internet…
THE LOCAL HISTORY ARCHIVES (Lokalhistorisk Arkiv)
You can learn more about Silkeborg by paying a visit to the local history archives where you have access to a large number of old newspapers, leaflets, maps, photos and documents about the history of Silkeborg and the region in which it is located.
